Many young individuals with support needs aspire to enter the workforce but require additional skills and experience to succeed. A supported internship is designed to help young people adapt to workplace structures and expectations.
For businesses, roles should reflect a genuine operational need and ideally have the potential to lead to paid employment. Employers receive support from a Work Support Specialist, who provides guidance on role adaptation and ensures a successful placement for both the organization and the individual. We collaborate with a wide network of employers across Capability SES.
A supported internship typically lasts one year and includes at least six months of unpaid work placement to contribute to long-term career goals. Generally, interns work three days per week, with most of the program taking place in a workplace setting. Interns are expected to meet standard workplace requirements, including punctuality and dress code.
Our role is to identify meaningful job opportunities and support both employees and employers to ensure a strong job match and skill development. A key success factor is the presence of an on-site job coach who helps young individuals acquire the necessary skills to excel in their roles.
Capability SES specializes in helping adults with support needs secure employment. To qualify for the program, candidates must be registered with a designated school but only need to attend a one-day registration session. The remainder of the program is spent in the workplace or in related development activities. This opportunity is open to any young person with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) who is eager to enter the workforce. It is particularly suitable for those who are transitioning out of school or may find it challenging to thrive in a traditional educational setting.
